Tate to be cultural epicentre for one long weekend

    The Long Weekend

And yet another example of Tate Modern’s relentless efforts to stretch its institutional boundaries: The Long Weekend is Tate Modern’s annual celebration of film, music, performance and visual art, set within the iconic architecture of the Bankside museum branch. The four-day event, on Friday 23, Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 May, features a series of remarkable and unmissable one-off performances by celebrated international artists in the dramatic setting of the great Turbine Hall.

Highlights include a performance by award-winning Congolese band Konono No 1, a spectacular presentation of Nan Goldin’s iconic slide projections, the screening of computer animations from the 60’s and 70’s and light projections by New York artists Graffiti Research Lab. There is also the chance to see the exhibitions Duchamp, Man Ray, Picabia, Street & Studio and Street Art, as well as a full programme of family activities, workshops and games for all ages.

GRL event at Tate modern did take place but indoors not out like expected. No wonder - it was pissing down rain and so I waited. The other couple of dozens on people waited too. Some came at 7pm and weren’t allowed to get in. ‘Capacity problems, you can’t get in. Maybe later, maybe 9:30pm’ - an incompetent acting security guard said. The show started. You could see silhouettes of people from the outside. It rained really heavily that evening. Even some people from the press didn’t get in. Hey, I’m not from the press but I work for CNN and I’ll have my say about how Tate Modern organizes free events. I guess it was too much trouble to just post some information on the wall saying that the event’s been canceled due to… lack of competence (?).
